Welcome to Jaisalmer

In early April we went on a prolonged weekend trip to the desert town of Jaisalmer, also known as the Golden City. It is an amazing place with a fairytale castle rising from the desert surrounded by a small town made almost entirely of yellow sandstone. And it's the last major city before you reach Pakistan.

A closer look at the main gate area.

Same area from the ground level.

Susanna above the city. This place is great. Unlike other Indian cities there are no ugly concrete blocks everywhere - only sandstone. Fantastic city planning that other Indian cities could learn a lot from.

Night view from our hotel rooftop restaurant towards the fort's ramparts. It's a fantastic sight at night.

Close up of fort walls at night.
