Bodnath Stupa

One of the most iconic images of Nepal is that of Bodnath Stupa, just outside Kathmandu.

Everywhere in Nepal you see stupas looking like this one, but I believe this to be the largest in Nepal. Although you can very, easily find higher places in Nepal this does feel like you are on the roof of the world, standing next to this giant stupa with a great view over Kathmandu Valley. I loved this place.

Monks and others walking all the way around the Stupa as it is tradition to do. Notice how a deep red Bordeaux colour is dominating, not just amongst the monks but also with many of the ordinary people.

The Stupa seen from below. Buddhist prayer flags everywhere add to the atmosphere.
